Organic Chemistry Synthesis

==Organic Synthesis Chemistry== The best and important way to master organic chemistry synthesis is to clearly grasp the foundation of organic chemistry. This involves practicing the concepts mechanisms frequently and reading a lot of chemistry articles and publications. This will help to fully understand and stay current with modern organic synthesis.

==Modern Approach== A large majority of organic compounds including the reproduction of naturally occurring compounds are prepared via modern organic synthesis approach. Organic synthesis is a special branch of chemistry that is focused on the construction of organic compounds using specific organic reactions.

However, the synthetic methodology used to make each compound is dependent on the complexity of the compound and the chemical synthesis will involve one or several synthetic steps. Even the modern organic synthesis may use steps that may involve specific reagents for a particular compound synthesis (reagents organic synthesis).

==Synthetic chemistry== The Synthetic chemistry approach is used wisely by researchers in the field of organic synthetic chemistry. Organic synthesis methods are used in custom organic synthesis.

A great number of pharmaceutical giants such as Merck, Pfizer, P&G hire a large number of new and experienced PhDs every year to assist in moving forward their research in drug discoveries. However, other chemical companies are specialized in producing chemical intermediates and survive economically through custom synthesis.

These companies are a big asset for larger chemical industry since custom organic synthesis is a process where, a specific company or synthetic laboratory places an order for a particular organic compound (usually intermediates). The requested quantity of that compound (supply) will be produced to meet the customer request (custom chemical synthesis). The supplier laboratory for custom organic synthesis must be ready to efficiently carry out multi-steps organic reactions. It must also equipped with appropriate chemical catalysts and have a know how in solid phase organic synthesis. This is not the job for a beginning chemist even though theses institutions employ a large number of chemists with undergraduate degree.

==Synthetic intermediates== All chemical compounds that is made between the starting materials and the final product step are usually referred to as synthetic intermediates. Convergent synthesis is used for more complex compounds where, several key intermediates of the final product are synthesized separately. All the intermediates are then coupled together to yield the final product. In this case, the process is referred to as total synthesis. A classic example is the total synthesis of the anti cancer agent, Taxol (refer to the structure) by Holton, Nicolaou and Danishefsky. A full knowledge of current organic synthesis and a comprehensive organic synthesis background is needed for the design and synthesis for these types of compounds.
